Its not a race, its a rally.

So for those of you who don't know, there's a niche group of motorists that exist to cover large amounts of distance in short amounts of time. In less than 24 hours I have to be in NYC for the pre-rally festivites. 24 hours after that, I'll be joining the ranks of these motorists as I barrel through both space and time to reach San Francisco.

When people think of this sort of event is a bunch of rich people racing expensive whips from hotel to hotel over the course of a week. Things like the Gumball 3000, Players Run, and any number of other rallies, have typified these sorts of things. So what sort of hyper-exotic will I be piloting to Cali? Hah, not so fast.

I'll back up a bit. On the 26th of October, and as a result of being perceived as crazy enough to attempt something like this, I received an invitation from a long time acquaintance of mine and marketing director for RedSquare llc, Alex Macfarlane, to co-drive in the 2904, a “Transcontinental Motorized Vehicular Tournament of Efficiency and Endurance”. This “tournament” isn't just a quick jaunt across the country. There's always a catch.

The Challenge:
It is 2904 miles from New York to San Francisco. Drive that distance as fast as you can for less than $2904 including the car.

The Budget:
What counts in the $2904:
- The vehicle’s purchase price
- Any non-safety modifications made to said vehicle, including parts and labor.
- Fuel, Oil, Antifreeze
- Speeding tickets
- Food (yes, that includes Little Debbie snack cakes and Moxie soda )
- Tolls “
(from www.the2904.com)

With that said, there wont be any Ferraris or Porsches here. After a few days of planning, careful scheduling (I am, after all, still a full-time college student), I accepted the invitation and not long after Alex had sent me a picture of a white 1999 Crown Victoria with the P71 Police Package. Dubiously named project INTERCEPTOR. Over the last week, the car has been outfitted with a few goodies, a CB radio, binoculars for locating rivals, a nice power inverter so I can bring you all along for the ride, virtually at least.

Whats that? You heard me right. I'll be updating this here blog as we head west bound and down. But wait, there's more! World Crush will be making two big announcements along the way! So stay tuned and see what sort of hijinks we find ourselves getting into.

As I post this, project INTERCEPTOR is en route to NYC with Alex and Dean (of www.IronHorseTaming.com) at the helm. GPS puts there arrival time at 1030am tomorrow (Friday). Wish us luck!
